There’s a reason why the phrase isn’t “There’s no place like house.”
They say home is where the heart is.
And they’re right.
But there’s so much more there.
There’s love. Between moms and dads. Parents and kids. Kids and pets.
There’s energy. Expended in a pickup baseball game, or an enthusiastic round of sibling rivalry.
There are reasons to celebrate, console and commiserate.
There is chaos. And peace. And back to chaos. Many times in the same day.
There are little moments that defy words.
(Which is okay, because sometimes words aren’t necessary.)
There is silence, even when you’re together.
There are sleeping babies and snoring grandpas.
There are kisses good morning, and storytimes at night.
There are “have a nice day”s and “how was your day”s.
We could go on. And on. And on.
Because yes, home is where the heart is.
But it’s where everything else is, too.
